Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash that occurred overnight on Rt. 15 just north of Leesburg.
Just after 1 a.m. today, a F-150 pickup truck was traveling north on Rt. 15 when it crossed the centerline into the southbound lanes near Selma Lane. A southbound tractor-trailer swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid the oncoming pickup truck, but the two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes, according to state police.
The driver of the pickup truck, an adult male, died at the scene. State police are in the process of notifying his next of kin and are expected to release his name later today.
The 30-year-old male tractor-trailer driver from North Carolina was not injured in the crash.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
It took crews most of the night to clear the crash. Rt. 15 was re-opened at 7 p.m.
