After announcing plans to hold a special meeting tomorrow night, the Leesburg Town Council this morning agreed to delay session in the hopes that all members can attend. During the session they hope to end the stalemate over the appointment of an interim mayor.
Vice Mayor Kelly Burk is serving as acting mayor, following Kristin C. Umstattd’s election to the Board of Supervisors.
Burk and Councilman Marty Martinez had said they would not be able to attend a meeting Wednesday night.
The special meeting now is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, just before the council’s regularly scheduled work session. The meeting will be held in the council chamber at town hall.
If the council selects a sitting member to take the mayor’s seat, then it also may vote to appoint a resident to fill the newly vacated council seat.
