The 12-year-old Sterling girl reported missed by her family was located safe and sound Sunday evening after an extensive search involving the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police and the Fairfax County Police Department.
The girl was located walking in the area of Algonkian Regional Park after residents recognized her from a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post alerting the public she was missing. “Social media can be a powerful tool,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman stated. “The Facebook post notifying the community she was missing was shared over 6,000 times from the East Coast to California. The efforts of Loudoun Deputies, the Virginia State Police, the Fairfax County Police and our community helped bring her home safe tonight.”
The efforts included a search of the area utilizing the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit with assistance from the Virginia State Police and aerial support from the Fairfax County Police Department helicopter.
The child was last seen Saturday night at her residence in the area of Kojun Court in Sterling, Va. and was reported missing by family on Sunday morning. She has been returned to her family.
