The Leesburg Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation at the scene of a shooting that happened this evening in the Brandon neighborhood.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Nansemond Street about 6:15 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Department spokesman Lt. Jeff Dubé said a 34-year-old woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds to her torso.
She was flown from the scene to a hospital, where she died.
A person of interest is in custody. He was located in Loudoun County outside of Leesburg, according to Dubé.
The department said the shooting occurred during a domestic dispute and there was no threat to the public.
“We believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the public,” Dubé said.
More information will be reported as it becomes available.
