David L. Janney, pastor of Purcellville Baptist Church, was the victim of a domestic-related stabbing at his home in Purcellville today, according to a statement from the church.
The church reported that Janney is in stable condition and receiving treatment in an intensive care unit. He was flown to a hospital for treatment after apparently being stabbed at his home on Canterbury Circle about 3:15 p.m. today, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Purcellville Police Department and Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The suspect fled and was apprehended by an off-duty law enforcement officer in the town.
Law enforcement has not released the name of the suspect, or whether he is related to Janney. Kraig Troxell, public information officer of Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that the stabbing was “domestic in nature.”
The statement from the church, signed by church pastors and elders, asked for prayers for the Janney family. “Praise the Lord he is stable and receiving great care in the ICU,” it stated.
According to Janney’s bio on the church website, he and his wife have three children. He grew up in Harrisburg, PA, and in South Jersey. He served as pastor at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Fairfax for five years before becoming senior pastor of Purcellville Baptist, a position he’s held since 1995.
