Central Loudoun Little League will hold its Opening Ceremony to celebrate the commencement of the spring Little League season at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9 at Riverside High School.
CLLL leaders moved the event from its Good Time Park to high school because of forecasts of wintery weather.
“We are so thankful to Riverside High School for saving our Opening Day,” CLLL President Pam Hemstreet stated. “This year’s ceremony will be a wonderful tribute to the more than 800 families who support Little League baseball in Leesburg.”
Former Major League Baseball pitcher Shawn Camp will deliver the keynote address at this first-of-its-kind pep rally-style Opening Day. CLLL will also welcome Potomac National’s mascot Uncle Slam to the festivities. He will lead the 78 teams, ranging from T-ball to the Majors division, as they parade into the gym for the ceremony.
Also in attendance will be CLLL’s two 2015 District 16 winning All-Star teams, the American League 10/11 team managed by Doug Sweeney and the 11/12 National League team managed by Jason Troilo. A special tribute is also planned for the more than 75 League Age 12 players, who will graduate to the big diamond at the end of the spring season.
CLLL will also open its annual silent auction, presented online for the first time this year, offering more than 85 baskets and certificates prepared by League families. Items available for auction include Washington Nationals ticket packages, Top Golf certificates, homemade baseball wreaths, Washington Redskin and Washington Wizards signed items, and much more.
The CLLL silent auction will open on Saturday at 10 a.m. at www.biddingowl.com/CLLL and is open to the public. All proceeds from the auction go directly back to CLLL in support of Little League baseball, including the upkeep and maintenance of Good Times Park, located at 42918 Fort Evans Road NE, in Leesburg.
“Our families have been extremely generous,” says Hemstreet. “I knew we had something special here in Leesburg, but the participation and support we have received this year is second-to-none.”
The CLLL spring season will run until June 18, 2016 and continue through the tournament season.
