Editor: I agree with Mr. Louis [Letters, April 7] that we should spend more taxpayer money for fire and rescue. But the money that was provided for Waterford cannot be given to fire and rescue. That is because, as I understand it, the money for Waterford is not taxpayer money. It comes from visitors to this area who stay in our hotels and who pay a Transient Occupancy Tax. These monies are then used to boost tourism in Loudoun County.
Money that is usually made at the Waterford Fair goes back into keeping the Waterford area in good repair. That is why the money that would have been raised at the fair needed to be replaced.
