Leesburg unleashed a new troop of foresters today following Arbor Day activities at Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School.
Town leaders including Mayor Dave Butler, Vice Mayor Kelly Burke and Supervisor Kristen D. Umstattd (D-Leesburg) joined members of the Tree Commission for an assembly of the school’s fourth grade classes. The students learned about the importance of trees and were given a Norway spruce sapling to take home to plant and do their part to help clean the air.
The town’s Fourth Grade Forester program rotates around Leesburg’s schools each year. The Frances Hazel Reid students were encouraged to return to the campus when they graduate high school to see how big their tree has grown.
