Gas Leak in Middleburg; Charter School, Businesses Evacuated

Middleburg Community Charter School and several nearby businesses have been evacuated as Washington Gas fixes a struck gas line in the town, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Laure Rinehart.

Just after noon, construction crews hit the line while digging. Washington Gas arrived on the scene about 1:15 p.m. No injuries have been reported.

“It looks like everything is under control. We’re just waiting for Washington Gas to take care of the leak,” Rinehart said. “We’ll stay on scene until they’ve mitigated the situation.”

Several streets in Middleburg will remain closed until the line is repaired.

This is a developing story and more will be reported as it’s learned.
