The Town Council voted last week to suspend the Water Conservation Plan Rebate Program that was begun in 2008.
Initiated during a time of severe drought and water shortage in town, the program provided subsidies to residents who purchased energy efficient appliances.
Public Works Director Alex Vanegas said appliances in general are now much more water-usage efficient. Each year the town has reduced the available subsidy—from $15,000 to $10,000 and to $3,500 for this year.
Only one individual had applied for the rebate so far this year, he said.
