Loudoun Deputy Fatally Shoots Man in Aldie

A Loudoun County deputy called to a domestic-related incident at a home in Aldie on Friday morning was involved in a fatal shooting.

Around 4:45 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disorderly subject damaging items inside his home in the 41400 block of Carriage Horse Drive in the Loudoun Crossing neighborhood. The call was made by a relative living in the home.

According to an initial report from the Sheriff’s Office, the adult male—later identified as 58-year-old Johannes M. Wood—armed with a knife advanced on the responding deputy near the front doorway. The deputy repeatedly instructed Wood to drop the knife before firing a single shot, killing Wood.

At the request of Sheriff Mike Chapman, the Virginia State Police is leading the investigation.
