A Bluemont home was damaged in a fire caused by a lightning strike during Tuesday’s storm.
Residents of the Foxwood Lane home were alerted just before 4 p.m. by smoke alarms and called the Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center to report the fire.
Fire and rescue crews from Round Hill, Philomont, Purcellville, Hamilton, Mount Weather and Clarke County responded and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof and attic of the two-story home. Additional tankers and engines were called to help with water supply operations in the rural subdivision.
Firefighters were able to enter the home and prevent the fire from spreading.
The two residents and their dog were displaced and are staying with family nearby.
Damage to the building and contents was estimated at $200,000.
