The 24th annual Dulles Day Family Festival and Plane Pull will be on held Saturday at Dulles Airport.
The Dulles Day Festival & Plane Pull is a major fund-raiser for Special Olympics Virginia. In the day’s main event, teams will compete to pull a 164,000-pound airplane 12 feet in the fastest time.
But there is more to do, including 5K/10K races, aircraft displays, live music, a car show, business exhibits, and children’s games and other entertainment. Event admission and parking are free.
Gates open at 10:30 am, with event festivities beginning at 11 a.m. The gates close at 3:45 p.m., with festivities ending at 4 p.m.
Since the first Plane Pull was held in 1993, Special Olympics Virginia has raised more than $2 million for athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the state, and also started a worldwide plane-pulling phenomenon. Now, similar plane pulls are held throughout the year in Colorado, Maryland, Hawaii, Tennessee and Texas.
