Del. Thomas “Tag” Greason (R-32), who represents the Ashburn area in the House of Delegates, was named the 2016 Legislator of the Year by the Virginia Child Care Association, the association announced today.
Each year, VCCA chooses one legislator who its members believe demonstrates great leadership on behalf of businesses in early childhood education.
“We believe that Delegate Greason’s efforts bring more unity to public and private early education in Virginia” Dr. Rosemary Burton, president of VCCA, stated.
She specifically praised Greason for introducing House Bills 46 and 47, which the General Assembly passed. Burton said the legislation has “created more opportunities for the public and private sector to work together towards school readiness and strengthening the early education workforce.”
HB 46 establishes a School Readiness Committee with the first goal of addressing the development and alignment of an effective professional development and credentialing system for the early childhood education workforce. HB 47 established a grant program meant to incentivize field-testing innovative strategies and evidence-based practices that support a robust system of mixed-delivery preschool services.
VCCA will recognize Greason at its annual conference Tuesday in Henrico.
