Campbell Appointed to Planning Commission, for Now

Public relations and research consultant Chad Campbell has been appointed to fill the seat left by Blue Ridge District Planning Commissioner Charlie Douglas’ unexpected retirement.

Campbell is also Supervisor Tony R. Buffington Jr.’s (R-Blue Ridge) appointee to the county’s comprehensive plan stakeholders steering committee. Campbell said he will only fill the seat on a short-term basis.

“I just agreed to do it for the next couple months, basically through the end of the year, maybe January, just to give him some time to meet with people and find a more permanent replacement,” Campbell said.

Campbell said the current relatively slow period of the steering committee’s work during its public outreach efforts will allow him to serve on the Planning Commission.

“I don’t have a big agenda other than to just make sure that the Blue Ridge District is fairly represented during that time,” Campbell said. “It wouldn’t be good if the seat was vacant.”

Campbell served at his first meeting as a commissioner at a public hearing Tuesday, Oct. 25.

Congratulations, Chad! Chad was my chief aide in my first year on the Board and also worked as a part time aide to Chairman York previously. He will do a great job!
