Vote On Leesburg Vice Mayor Postponed

Leesburg Town Council members will wait a bit longer to decide who will serve as second-in-command to Mayor Kelly Burk.

Council members were expected to discuss the appointment of a vice mayor during Tuesday night’s meeting. But voted to postpone the vote until Jan. 24, with Burk noting that new council member Hugh Forsythe had called her prior to the meeting to request the delay so he could participate in vote. Appointed Monday night, Forsythe noted at that meeting that a prior commitment Tuesday would prevent him from attending the meeting.

The vice mayor is appointed for a two-year term and acts as mayor if the elected mayor is absent. On the current council, only Burk and Councilman Marty Martinez have previously served as Leesburg’s vice mayor.
