Ice Bowl Raises a Record $7K for Loudoun Hunger Relief

In its sixth year, the LoCo Disc Golf Club’s Ice Bowl raised $7,000 for Loudoun Hunger Relief.

LoCo Ice Bowl is held each winter under the motto “No Wimps, No Whiners,” with participants expected to play no matter what the weather. This year, the event was held Jan. 28, with Mother Nature offering sunny skies and 50-degree weather.

LoCo Disc Golf Club Vice Chairman Brian Junkins said the event attracted record participation and collected 427 pounds of food and $7,021 in donations.

Ice Bowls are sponsored by disc golf clubs all around the country each year. In 2016, 219 Ice Bowl events raised $357,000 to aid hunger relief nonprofits. Since 1996, the events have raised more than $3.5 million nationally.

“We love the community spirit of the LOCO Ice Bowl, and deeply appreciate the support of the LOCO Disc Golf Club,” Loudoun Hunger Relief Executive Director Jennifer Montgomery stated. “Their assistance not only helps us feed our neighbors in need, but also helps get the word out about hunger in Loudoun County. We can’t wait to play next year.”
