The 2017 Spc. Stephan L. Mace Annual Golf Classic is expected to draw a crowd to the Loudoun Golf and Country Club in Purcellville on Sept. 11.
The tournament has sold out for a third year in a row with 156 golfers and more than 50 area businesses contributing through sponsorships and donations. Proceeds from the golf classic will benefit Loudoun County’s HeroHomes, a nonprofit organization established to build homes for those who have fought for the preservation of freedom and democracy for others.
The tournament is named after Spc. Stephan L. Mace, who was one of eight soldiers killed in a 2009 Taliban attack. Seven survivors of the attack will take part in the golf classic, including Silver Star recipients Thomas Rasmussen, Brad Larson, Shane Courville, and Christopher Cordova, Bronze Star recipient and author of “Rise” Daniel Rodriguez, and Medal of Honor recipient Clint Romesha.
