George Edward Velez 1946-2017

George Edward Velez, age 70 of Leesburg, Virginia passed away Aug 20, 2017, after a long illness at INOVA Loudoun Hospital in Lansdowne, VA on August 20, 2017.

George was born Oct. 6, 1946, in the Bronx, NY and raised in Dumont, NJ on October 6, 1946 the second of three children of Edward and Renee (Gaudelas) Velez.

George lived a full and purposeful life with humor as well as courage and faith in the face of adversity & illness.  He was a devoted and loving husband of 39 years to Karen (Prien) Velez and the proud father of Rebecca (Velez) Jackson and her husband Stevie and the loving grandfather of three grandchildren, Quentin, Taylor & Peyton. He is survived by his sister, Marylou (Velez) Richards, Sister in Law Candy (Monti) Velez, and nieces & nephews: Christine (Jose) Gomez, Joanne (Steve) Hansen, Todd (Colleen) Williams, Scott (Heather)Williams, Nicole (Kurt) Meyers, Elizabeth (Ryan) Bender & Ryan Velez.  George is preceded in death by his parents, Renee and Edward Velez; as well as his brother, Jack E. Velez.

He graduated from Newark College of Engineering in 1975 with his degree in Mechanical Engineering.  After graduation he worked in the plastics industry as a sales engineer and traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world.

Along with his wife he was involved in the Girl Scouts, Loudoun Hunger Relief, The Community Holiday Coalition and numerous other local Loudoun charities.

He will be remembered by family and friends for his outgoing and friendly personality, humor, kindness, optimism, big heart & willingness to help others but most of all his big & welcoming smile.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, from 5:00pm-7:00pm with a service at 6:00pm at Loudoun Funeral Chapel, 158 Catoctin Circle SE, Leesburg, VA 20175.
