Northam, Dems Sweep Loudoun; Maddox Elected in Leesburg

With 95 percent of precincts reporting in Loudoun, Democrats are moving toward a near clean sweep in statewide and House of Delegates races.

The Democrats statewide ticket—Ralph Northam, Justin Fairfax and Mark Herring—all are leading their Republican counterparts by roughly 60-40 margins. Democrats also have leads in all but one House of Delegates race. Only Republican incumbent, in the 33rd District, is leading his opponent, Tia Walbridge.

Veteran Republican delegates Randy Minchew (10th), Tag Greason (32nd) and Jim LeMunyon (67th) are trailing by significant margins to their respective Democratic challengers Wendy W. Gooditis,  David A. Reid and Karrie K. Delaney.

In the Leesburg Town Council race, Vanessa Maddox defeated Josh Thiel by 356 votes.

Statewide, Northam holds a 7 percent lead over Republican Ed Gillespie in the race for the governor’s seat.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned.
