With temperatures expected to remain far below freezing over the next several days, the Town of Lovettsville has postponed its New Year’s Eve community run, known as Berserkle in the Squirkle.
Mayor Bobby Zoldos announced the decision today. “With the temperature at the beginning of the Berserkle at 19 fun-loving degrees which will ‘feel like 9 degrees’ and at the end it will be only 17 and feel like 6 degrees, it would be really unsafe to hold the event,” he wrote in his weekly newsletter.
But the event will go on. On Feb. 10, townsfolk will be encouraged to come out and run in celebration of the German holiday Karneval or Fasching.
“We thought if we can’t ring in the new year with you we can certainly celebrate the German version of Mardi Gras with you,” Zoldos wrote. “It is a celebration marked with costumes and parades and other silliness. Sort of right down our alley here in Lovettsville.”
Details are being worked out.
