Uber Driver Faces Sexual Assault Charge in Loudoun

An Uber driver is behind bars after allegedly sexually assaulting a passenger in eastern Loudoun County last week.

Kal Y. Hartemariam, 44, of Sterling, was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated sexual battery and forcible sodomy.

The charges stem from an investigation into a Dec. 27 incident when a woman reported she was assaulted by a driver of an Uber after she was picked up in Herndon around 1:30 a.m.

She reported that she had been drinking with friends and used the ride-hailing service to get a ride to a Sterling home. In the area of Rutherford Circle, the driver stopped the vehicle and got into the backseat where he assaulted her, the victim reported.

Hartemariam is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
