Former Maryland Town Manager Hired as Purcellville Interim Public Works Director

As of last week, the Town of Purcellville has a new interim public works director.

Dawn Ashbacher, who served as town manager of Sykesville, MD, from 2012 to 2017, took over last Thursday for Capital Projects and Engineering Manager Dale Lehnig, who acted in the interim role for eight months. Ashbacher is working 29 hours a week and is being paid $50 per hour.

Interim Town Manager John Anzivino said he hired her to allow Lehnig the chance to commit herself fully to the job she was hired to do. “[Lehnig] expressed a desire to return to her former position of capital projects and engineering manager,” he said.

Anzivino said Ashbacher would remain in the position until a new director is hired. “The timeline has not yet been established for hiring a permanent director, but will be soon,” he said.

Ashbacher is the third person to fill the role since last May, when the Town Council appointed then public works director Alex Vanegas as the interim town manager following Rob Lohr’s retirement. Lehnig was appointed as the interim public works director shortly after.

Ashbacher is among three other town administrators  holding interim positions—Anzivino, Interim Town Attorney Hank Day and Interim Police Chief Joe Schroeck.
