Sterling Woman Claims $3M Lottery Win Before Deadline

Last September, Ina H. Fernandez bought a Mega Millions lottery ticket during a visit to the Giant Food store in Cascades. About a month later, she realized it was worth $3 million.

Then she put the ticket away for safe keeping.

The ticket was set to expire yesterday, but she finally turned it into the Lottery office last week.

The retiree told Lottery officials she said wanted to think about it and get her family  finances in order before claiming the prize.

The winning numbers in the Sept. 5, 2017, drawing were 11-17-59-70-72, and the Mega Ball number was 1. She used Easy Pick, allowing the computer to randomly select her numbers. Although her ticket missed the Mega Ball numbers, she paid $1 extra for the Megaplier that tripled her $1 million prize.
