Letter: David S. Meroney, Leesburg

Editor: The right to bear arms is an absolutely essential requirement for an individual to protect his freedom as a citizen.

Citizens possess in their own right original sovereignty. They are not subjects who are slaves to masters. Are we to defend our freedoms with a musket? Obviously not.

We have a Constitutional right to weapons of war equal to those of government whose reins may soon be usurped by socialist tyrants. All citizens have a duty to possess arms to defend our constitutional republic.

America is at a tipping point. We must prepare our freedoms or we will surely lose them. Socialism kills.

Put “citizen” and “sovereign” in the same sentence, and you’re on a list somewhere now.

But I agree with you. The other part of the 2nd Amendment is to have a citizenry with the sheer brute force to overthrow a tyrannical government. Whatever weapon a common infantryman has, that is the weapon any citizen should be able to possess.

Now, I’m on a list too.
