Letter: Lynn Davis, Sterling

Editor: In a matter of weeks, the initial spark of outrage first struck by the remarkable students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, has swept the nation and become a national movement.

On March 24, more than 800,000 people in Washington, DC, joined The March for Our Lives in solidarity with youth around the world to focus our nation on the subject of gun violence.

I am pleased that Senator Jennifer Wexton has been given the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction for standing up for gun violence prevention and recognizing gun safety.  She has earned this distinction because of her work as a prosecutor of domestic violence cases and her work on gun control in the Virginia Senate.

If we are to succeed in protecting our children against gun violence, we need more courageous legislators like Senator Wexton in Congress.
