Editor:  Our local community raised a bit more than $265,000 through the 2018 Give Choose campaign. This charitable “crowdfunding” event has become a new source of spring funding for many nonprofits directly serving our community. (Did you know that, for most nonprofits, 30 to 80 percent of all household donations are received at year end?)

Since its inception in 2014, Give Choose has become a platform for local charities raising more than $865,000.

This community-wide effort is more than a source of income for local charities. It is a portal for local residents and households to learn about the good works going on their backyard—and support that work in a fun, easy way. It engages our business and foundation funders, too, that each year build a funding pool to provide incentivizing prizes throughout the day.

As the event’s hosts and coordinators, the Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties recognizes Give Choose is one more tool in our community’s toolbox to encourage charitable giving. This is especially critical in Loudoun County, as charitable giving ranks substandard when compared to the nation, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and most certainly when compared to neighboring counties.

As we wrap up Give Choose 2018, 65 charities celebrate the funds raised through 1,718 generous gifts.

On behalf of all of our donors and residents who benefit from the quality of life our nonprofit sector brings to us here at home; and, on behalf of all the charities that deserve the resources to make this community one of the best to grow up and grow old in . . .  thank you.
