Leesburg teacher Meghan Bentley and several of her colleagues at Frederick Douglass Elementary School got a big surprise from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” today.
Jeannie Klisiewicz from the show appeared at Bentley’s home early this morning to deliver 12 huge gifts— to mark the 12 days of Christmas—that included thousands of dollars in gift cards. Bentley’s fellow teachers told Ellen DeGeneres about how caring Bentley is to her students and that she and her husband were going to forgo buying gifts this year because they needed to pay off school loans and other debt.
Bentley screamed when she saw DeGeneres’ crew at her front door. She said she’s a huge fan of the show.
DeGeneres asked Bentley about her job, to which the second-grade teacher fought back tears and said, “I love my job and my kids mean everything to me.”
DeGeneres said, “Well, we think what you do for your students is amazing … and we want to help you with your holiday shopping.”
A huge display of oversized gift cards and holiday decorations filled Bentley’s entryway. “Oh my goodness. Thank you,” Bentley screamed.
DeGeneres also gave a $1,000 Target gift card to several other Frederick Douglass Elementary School teachers. “We respect what all teachers do,” she said.
