Take extra care while driving home this evening. Northern Virginia is expected to get its first snow of the season, and strong winds to go along with it.
Snow showers will move into the region by 4 p.m. and should clear out by 8 p.m., according to Weather Underground. Visibility could drop rapidly for a brief period during heavier snow showers.
A cold front will also bring with it winds that could reach up to 50 mph. that may leave trees toppled and power lines damaged. A wind advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m.
The cold air may result in patches of ice on untreated roadways, so commuters are encouraged to use extra caution and take their time.
