FCi Federal celebrated another corporate milestone Friday, opening its new office near University Center in Ashburn.
Started by Sharon Virts in her brother’s basement before moving to a small office in Leesburg’s historic district, the federal contractor now has more than 5,000 employees nationwide. More than 70 employees are housed in the firm’s new 40,000-square-foot office at 20135 Lakeview Center Plaza.
It’s a fast-growing company. The latest office expansion comes only two years after it moved into new offices in the neighboring building. And the firm may need to expand again, but Virts said one thing is certain: FCi will remain a Loudoun-based company. Loudoun Economic Development Director Buddy Rizer was on hand for Friday’s celebration and was put on notice to keep his eyes open for suitable space when that day comes.
FCi provides professional services, information management, program support, and constituent services for dozens of federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense. In August, FCi Federal was named to the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest growing companies in the nation.
“FCi’s expanded headquarters space will enable us to increase our capabilities and infrastructure in support of our robust growth in immigration pre-adjudication support services and our strategic expansion plans into new markets,” CEO and President Scott F. Miller said. “We have a talented HQ team and look forward to expanding our employee base here and at our customer sites across the U.S.”
Virts, who is chairman of the board, started the company on Oct. 15, 1991. She pointed out that she was 29 years old at the time and encouraged employees who are that age now to consider the opportunities ahead for them.
“We are going to stay in Loudoun,” Virts said. “I was born and raised here. I went to school here. I live here. I left here for a while and I came back. Loudoun County is a great place to be and we don’t ever want to be anyplace else.”
“It’s a great community,” Virts added, noting that she expected the company and its employees to give back to that community.
Virts and Miller have been making headlines in that department this year. Most recently, they made a $2 million donation to Inova Loudoun Hospital to expand the emergency room and trauma center in Lansdowne. They also are undertaking restoration of the historic Selma mansion north of Leesburg and donated $10,000 to the Land Trust of Virginia.
