Letter: Alexander Soutter, Lansdowne

Editor: Anyone who was paying attention learned long ago that Donald Trump is a lecherous philanderer who objectifies and devalues women. Why, then, did it take Barbara Comstock until the final days of the campaign to disavow Mr. Trump?

Perhaps it is because she has always marched blindly in lock-step with her GOP masters.

Perhaps it is because she, too, devalues the worth of women in the workplace. Even though she knows that women in her district are paid only 68 percent of what men are paid for the same job, she opposes the Paycheck Fairness Act and paid family leave.

Perhaps it is because she shares his commitment to take away a woman’s right to control her own body. (Though even Mr. Trump has not voted to require vaginal ultrasounds before an abortion, as she has.)

We deserve a Representative who is able to promptly recognize and reject Mr. Trump’s misogny, not an extremist partisan who toes the party line at the expense of women’s rights.

Alexander, I guess you didn’t learn much in civics class. The presidential nominees have virtually nothing to do with the Congressional reps. Our reps vote for a Speaker of the House who then controls everything in the House. You either want tax-and-spend Pelosi (vote Bennett) or rational-but-compassionate Paul Ryan (vote Comstock) as Speaker. It’s not complex.
