A team of Democrats will be in Leesburg on Friday for a “meet and greet” at the Leesburg Diner, owned by Democrat Michael O’Connor.
The informal gathering will feature U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA); Leesburg’s own, Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D); 10th Congressional candidate LuAnn Bennett; and the Khan family, who are scheduled to be at the diner at about 1:30 p.m.
It was Khizr Khan, with his wife Ghazala Khan standing quietly beside him, who made headlines after his speech at the Democratic Convention in August, defending American Muslims as he cited the death of his 27-year-old son, Capt. Humayan Khan, in Iraq in 2004.
The Leesburg Diner is at 9 S. King St. in downtown Leesburg.
