Purcellville Vice Mayor Karen Jimmerson has endorsed Mavis Taintor in the race for the Democratic nomination for the 33rd District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.
“Mavis has the experience, leadership, and character for the job,” Jimmerson said. “Her story is truly inspiring. She rose in the ranks of the financial industry when no other women were there; started her own business and grew it successfully, and garnered a reputation for getting things done. Her progressive values show from her time with Head Start and her participation in the Million Mom March against gun violence.”
Taintor enters politics from a career in the banking and finance industry. She is the co-founder and managing director of Callidus Capital Management, LLC, a $4 billion asset management firm. She moved to Waterford 10 years ago and established a horse farm there.
She is the second Democrat to announce plans to challenge incumbent Republican David LaRock. Tia Walbridge also will seek the Democratic nomination in the race. Voters in the district, which stretches from just west of Leesburg to just outside Winchester, will elect their representative in November.
Taintor will hold a campaign kick-off event at Hamilton Community Park Pavilions at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 22.
Primary elections for governor, lieutenant governor, the House of Delegates, and local offices will be held June 13.
