The Purcellville Cannons Collegiate Baseball Club will have a special guest in the dugout its home games this week.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, former Major League Baseball all-star Brandon Inge will as special guest coach. Inge, a native of Lynchburg, played in the Valley Baseball League in 1996 with the Waynesboro Generals. He was a shortstop and relief pitcher for Virginia Commonwealth University, and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1998. He retired in 2013 after a 13-year career with the Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics and Pittsburgh Pirates. Inge was an All-Star in 2009 with the Tigers.
“Anytime you have a former Major Leaguer address your team, everyone should be paying attention,” Brett Fuller, the Cannons’ president and manager said. “The amount of knowledge he has is far greater than anyone in the league and our players are very fortunate to have this opportunity.”
The Cannons host the New Market Rebels tonight and the Waynesboro Generals on Wednesday. The team currently leads North Division in the Valley League with a 22-10 record, enjoying a four-game lead over second place New Market.
