Stewart Appointed Dulles Airport Manager

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority named Mike Stewart vice president and airport manager for Washington Dulles International Airport at Wednesday’s monthly meeting of the board of directors.

Stewart replaces interim vice president and airport manager Brian Leuck, who took over on Chris Browne’s retirement in January. Browne went on to work as deputy director of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.

Stewart will take on his new role following the Leuck’s retirement Dec. 8.

Stewart has served as vice president of airline business development at the airports authority for the last two years. He has held several other key positions at the authority and in the aviation industry, including Dulles Airport’s manager of airport administration, the authority’s manager of airline affairs, director of corporate real estate and airport affairs for Independence Air and management positions with US Airways and Piedmont Airlines.

“Mike brings significant experience and skills to his new role as airport manager,” said Airports Authority Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Margaret McKeough. “We, at the Airports Authority, are pleased that Mike will lead the team of dedicated Dulles professionals serving the traveling public at the National Capital region’s premier international airport. I also want to thank Brian Leuck for the outstanding leadership he provided as airport manager, applaud his 29 years of dedicated service to Dulles International and wish him well in his retirement.”

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority operates Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, the Dulles Airport Access Highway and the Dulles Toll Road. It also manages construction of the Silver Line project, a 23-mile extension of the Washington region’s Metrorail public transit system through Fairfax County and into Loudoun County, Virginia. More than 45 million passengers a year pass through the two airports.

    lets hope he can do a better job than the previous clowns. IAD has massive debt from uncontrolled spending on a mult-billion train to nowhere that doesn´t even connect the terminals, some of he highest airport rent in the USA, a lack of low fare carriers becasue landing costs are the second highest in the USA and balloning fees for parking, concessions and everything else. What do we have to show for all that $$$? An underutilized airport, the aforementioned train to nowhere, a billion dollar basement AKA the security pavillion, an embarrasment in terminals C/D. These guys have done a poor job running IAD with no accountability.
