Timothy Sparbanie has been tapped to lead Lowes Island Elementary School. The School Board made his new post as principal official at its Dec. 12 meeting, and Sparbanie’s first day in the new role was Monday.
Sparbanie started his career in education in 1994, and taught for 20 years before moving into administrative roles. He taught fifth grade at four elementary schools in Loudoun County: Ashburn, Emerick, Cool Spring and Meadowland. He also taught social studies at Eagle Ridge Middle School and English at Blue Ridge Middle School. He has served as assistant principal at Sugarland Elementary since 2014.
“Clearly, his breadth of teaching is quite impressive,” Superintendent Eric Williams said, as he introduced Sparbanie at the Dec. 12 meeting. “We’re very excited about Mr. Sparbanie’s transition to principal of Lowes Island Elementary.”
Sparbanie replaces Bruce Shafferman, who retired after 12 years leading the school.
