Neighborhood concerns about lighting, noise and traffic continue to be raised by about request to expand an Arcola soccer complex.
The owners of Virginia Fusion Park are seeking special exception approval to operate an outdoor recreation establishment, have lighted playing fields, and to reduce requirement to limit off-site lighting spillover.
A soccer field and building already stand on the 4.5-acre property, located west of Evergreen Mills Road at the Belmont Ridge Road intersection. Virginia Fusion President Branko Pantovich wants to build a FIFA-sized field—which could also alternate as two youth fields—and add lights.
The county planning commission recommended approval of the application. However, Supervisor Tony Buffington (R-Blue Ridge), who represents the area, has proposed a list of nine conditions addressing parking, access, lighting, and use limitations on which he wants agreement.
The board’s Transportation and Land Use Committee reviewed the project Monday night, with members also raising concerns about the proposal. The panel will continue its deliberations next month.
