Thiel Formally Takes Council Seat

Six days after Leesburg voters elected him to fill a vacant Town Council seat, Joshua P. Thiel took the oath of office Monday afternoon—just before sitting down for his first meeting.

County Clerk of the Circuit Court Gary Clemens administered the ceremony in front of a crowd of family, supporters and town staff in the Town Hall basement Monday afternoon.

“From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all so much for everything you’ve done for me. You guys have been so supportive and so wonderful. I just want to thank you so much,” he said.

Last Tuesday, Thiel won the three-way race to fill the council seat previously held by Ken Reid. His term expires Dec. 31, 2020.
