Loudoun Student in License Design Contest

A Briar Woods High School senior is one of eight finalists in the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ Take Action Against Distraction license plate art contest.

Stephanie Schmidt’s plate design states “Is It Worth a Life?” and includes an X through french fries, soda and a smart phone. The background of the plate is covered in texting acronyms and abbreviations such as LOL, YOLO and C U Soon.

The license plate art contest was launched by former Del. Thomas “Tag” Greason after 5-month-old Tristan Schulz was run over and killed while being pushed in a stroller by his mother. It is for students in grades nine through 12 and meant to raise awareness about the consequences of distracted driving.

People can vote on their favorite plate design at dmv.virginia.gov/vehicles/#vaplatecontest.asp until March 20. The contest winner will be announced in April.
