She spent much of her career as a private duty nurse comforting patients nearing the end of their lives. Brownie served her community through the Auxiliary at the Lucketts Volunteer Fire Department and as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Brownie was an artist and as a young woman was well known for her beautiful sketches of flowers, braided rugs, hooked rugs, and dried flower arrangements which she sold each year at the Waterford Fair. Her garden was always full of a wide variety of flowers, and Brownie looked forward to the first sightings of jonquils, hyacinth, and forsythia each year. She will be remembered by those who knew her as woman of strong will and a “tough old bird.”
