The Town Council has changed the due date for 2018 town personal property tax payments from May 7 to June 19.
The town receives vehicle ownership and property assessments from the Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue. Loudoun County recently converted to a new financial management system. To process the new data transfer files, the Department of Finance and Administrative Services was required to develop custom software, a process that has taken longer than planned. As a result, personal property tax bills are expected to be mailed the week of May 14, six weeks later than usual.
While state code requires a minimum of two weeks from the date property tax bills are mailed for taxpayers to pay without penalty, Leesburg traditionally has allowed four weeks. In keeping with that tradition, the due date has been extended accordingly.
