A Lovettsville youth took home third prize in C-SPAN’s 13th annual video documentary competition.
Thomas McKenna, an eighth grade homeschool student in town, won in the StudentCam Competition, which saw the submission of almost 3,000 videos from middle and high school students in 46 states and territories. Thomas has been awarded $750 for his video, “Equality to Govern”—a 7-minute documentary on the U.S. Constitution’s Natural Born Citizen Clause.
Ongoing since 2006, the competition invites America’s youth each year to film short documentaries about national issues. The theme this year was, “The Constitution & You,” which had participants creating videos related to whichever portion of the U.S. Constitution that they felt was important to them. The most popular themes among the documentarians this year were the First, Second and 14th Amendments.
Thomas’ video, along with all other winning videos, can be viewed at studentcam.org.
