Purcellville Woman’s Club is offering the Mac Brownell Scholarship essay contest for high school girls.
Girls in their junior and senior year of high school who are in public, private or home school and live within the 20132 ZIP code are eligible.
The essay should be 750-1,000 words and answer one of the following questions: What about Mac Brownell’s life inspires you? How do you see yourself giving back to the community in the future in order to make a difference? If you were to plan a community service project for Purcellville, what would it look like?
The essays will be judged on content (45 percent), delivery and grammar (30 percent), and organization of the material (25 percent).
The first-place winner will be awarded $1,500; second-place will receive $1,000; and $500 for third place.
Entrants are asked to include their name, address, school, email and phone number, and email the essay to firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline to apply has been extended until April 21.
