Over the past half century, the Oatlands Point-to-Point has served as a community celebration of spring as much as it is a sporting event. Sunday’s 52nd running was a day reserved for diehards.
Temperatures falling into the 50s, high winds and the threat of rain had many tailgaters wishing they could replace their stylist broad-rimmed hats for warmer knit cap—and gloves would have been welcomed, too. But even as the crowd grew sparse, the racing proved competitive throughout the day, starting with a photo-finish in the sidesaddle exhibition.
