This Mother’s Day, Loudoun County nurse-midwives Wendy Dotson and Hilary Biesecker will talk about their work with midwives in Haiti.
The event will take place at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, May 13, at Goose Creek Friends Meeting House, 18204 Lincoln Road in Lincoln. Refreshments will be served and Haitian arts and crafts will be for sale.
Dotson’s and Biesecker’s talk will focus on the organization Midwives for Haiti, founded in 2006, that teaches midwifery skills to Haitian nurses. Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and the poorest in which to give birth. The country’s remoteness and poverty level keep most mothers from receiving prenatal and postnatal care or attendance at birth by a skilled provider.
