After a successful first year of spelling, trivia, and drinks, the Loudoun Literacy Council’s Buzzed at the Bee adult spelling bee is back.
Last year, Buzzed at the Bee’s inaugural spelling contest packed the house at Leesburg Brewing Company and raised more than $1,500 for Loudoun Literacy, a nonprofit that provides free and low-cost English courses, as well as one-on-one tutoring, to individuals and families. That event led to a follow-up bee at The Zone in Loudoun Station before Loudoun Literacy’s big annual fundraiser, the Not-Your-Kid’s Spelling Bee in October, which packed a room at the Ida Lee Recreation Center and raised about $17,500 for the nonprofit.
This year, the bee will be co-hosted by Mason Enterprise Center Small Business Development Center Manager and Lead Business Advisor Eric Byrd and Loudoun Now reporter and host of the Morning Minute podcast Renss Greene.
It kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24 at Leesburg Brewing Company in Leesburg. Tickets are $20 at the door and include a drink and a chance to win a prize in the bee.
