Traffic patterns are scheduled to change around construction of a new intersection at Rt. 7 and Belmont Ridge on Thursday, June 21, weather permitting.
This is the second phase of work that began earlier this year. This phase will open the southeast ramp and spur allowing traffic to access Rt. 7 eastbound from Belmont Ridge Road north and south. This second phase of the project was planned to begin in late May, but was delayed by weather.
During Phase 2, traffic detours from Rt. 7 westbound will remain in effect until the construction of the northeast ramp and spur is completed. The work is expected to take about 30 days to complete. Motorists can expect delays during daytime and nighttime hours and are encouraged to use alternative routes if possible. Electronic message boards will be posted on northbound and southbound Belmont Ridge Road to advise the public of the southeast ramp and spur opening.
The work is related to preparations for a significant milestone in the project: the first phase of the opening of the interchange bridge. The work will eliminate the traffic signal on Rt. 7 and relocate Belmont Ridge Road northbound and southbound traffic onto the bridge.
