Already facing life in prison on allegations that he killed is father and burned his house down, Michael F. Bowles got deeper in trouble yesterday after a fight at the Adult Detention Center.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Bowles, 21, assaulted an inmate shortly after 11 a.m. July 19 while they were in the day room of the jail. Bowles was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery and felony possession unauthorized weapon capable of death or bodily injury. The agency said Bowles’ weapon was created by placing soap bars inside a laundry bag.
Neither Bowles nor the victim were seriously injured, the agency said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 6 in Loudoun County District Court.
Bowles appeared in Circuit Court on Friday morning on a defense motion to have therapists as the University of Virginia conduct an evaluation to determine whether he was legally sane at the time his father’s killing. County prosecutors argued that the review should be conducted by the Loudoun County Mental Health department. Judge Jeanette Irby was expected to rule on the motion this afternoon.
