Hamilton Man Faces Third DUI Charge after Hitting Sheriff’s Office Cruiser

A 31-year-old Hamilton man is behind bars today after crashing into a Loudoun deputy on Rt. 7 early Friday morning.

The crash happened at 2:25 a.m. on Rt. 7 near Hamilton Station Road. According to the report, Douglas M. Smith was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway when he struck the westbound deputy.

No injuries were reported.

Smith was arrested and charged with felony driving under the influence—third in 10 years.

He was held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

According to court records, Smith faced the same charge following a May 22 arrest, but the case was dropped last month.
