Update: The power was restored to Lucketts Elementary School shortly after 11 a.m.
Teachers and students arrived at Lucketts Elementary School this morning just before 10 a.m. to discover the building dark, the phones silent, and the heat off. The school lost power due to yesterday’s snow.
Loudoun County Public Schools sent an alert to parents at 9:51 a.m. to let them know the building lost power. The first session of classes started at 9:50 a.m. “We anticipate continuing with the regular school day,” the alert stated. “Dominion Power plans to have power restored by 11 a.m.”
The alert also says that any children picked up early from school will be considered excused.
A photo taken by a teacher shows one of the classrooms at 41 degrees. Staff will bring in hot lunches from another school site.
Loudoun County Public Schools were closed yesterday and are operating on a two-hour delayed start today to give school system staff time to clear sidewalks and parking lots of snow.
